Honda Dio BS6: Top 5 highlights

Honda has launched the new BS6 model of its moto-scooter, the Dio, in India. The pricing of the new Dio starts at Rs 59,990 which is a premium of around Rs 6,000 over the outgoing model. So what updates does it get to justify that premium? To answer that, we bring you the top five highlights of the new Dio.

Sportier design

While the Dio was already a sporty-looking scooter, Honda has made it sharper and edgier now. The headlamp, position lamp and tail lamp boast of a more angular design while the faux air-intakes with carbon-fibre finish on the front apron add more drama to the overall aesthetics. Notably, it also gets golden coloured wheel rims which make the scooter look more premium.

Longer feature list

Similar to its other BS6 models, Honda has comprehensively updated the Dio in terms of features. The list now includes an ACG silent starter, external fuel filler cap, front pocket, side stand engine cut-off switch and a dual function switch integrating fuel cap and seat opener.

Updated instrument cluster

The new Dio retains its fully-digital instrument cluster, however, the updated console has more data on display. Besides the basic information, it shows distance-to-empty, average fuel economy and real-time fuel economy.

Fuel-injected engine

The carbureted motor of the scooter has been updated with fuel-injection, a mandatory element for compliance with BS6 emission norms. While the displacement remains unchanged at 109.19cc, the power figures have gone marginally down to 7.9bhp and 8.9Nm, same as the new Activa 6G. However, Honda claims that the engine produces power smoothly and more linearly now.

Improved cycle parts

Besides the aforementioned updates, Honda has also replaced the 10-inch front wheel of the Dio by a 12-inch unit while the outdated trailing-link suspension has made way for telescopic units. At the rear, 10-inch wheel and monoshock have been retained. Braking is taken care of by drum brakes at both ends and a front disc is still not available as an option.
