Honda 2Wheelers India has announced that its youth-focused scooter, the Dio, has breached the 30 lakh sales figure. While the first 15 lakh sales milestone took a good 14 years to achieve, the latest 15 lakh sales was accomplished in only three years.
Introduced in 2002, the Dio continues to be the fourth highest selling scooter in the country, as per Honda. The company also announceed that that it has a 44 per cent export market share in the scooter segment wherein the Dio is notably the most exported scooter of the company and also in India. The scooter is exported to more than 11 South Asian and Latin American countries like Nepal, Sri Lanka, Mexico and Colombia, to name a few.
The current generation Dio sold in the country continues to be a trendy offering in the 110cc scooter segment. It retains the edgy design and comes with modern features like a LED headlamp with LED position lamps and a fully digital instrument cluster. Honda offers the Dio in nine paint schemes under two variants - Standard and Deluxe. Mechanically, the scooter is powered by the same 109cc single-cylinder motor that produces 8bhp and 9Nm. It features a bottom-linked type front suspension and a monoshock at the rear. It rides on 10-inch wheels shod with tubeless tyres while braking is done by drum brakes at both ends equipped with Honda’s combi-braking system.
