Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India recently updated its 110cc scooter, the Dio to comply with the BS6 (new) emission norms. The BS4 (old) model will also be available for sale until the stocks last or till the deadline to comply with the new emission norms i.e. March 31, 2020 kicks in. In this post, we list the differences between the old and the new Honda Dio.
Styling and Features
Both, the old and new Honda Dio feature a modern and sharp design that aims to attract young buyers. The new Dio gets even sharper than its predecessor, and the overall design looks attractive. The more angular headlamp, position lamp and tail lamp, along with faux air-intakes, carbon-fibre finish and golden coloured wheel rims further enhance the styling quotient of the new scooter. The apron mounted headlight is common a feature, although the old model used a halogen headlight while the new version packs a LED unit. Storage solutions now include a new front pocket that adds to the convenience.
The instrument cluster continues to be a digital unit although the new model sports a new design and more information than before. The additional readings on the new model include average fuel economy, real-time fuel economy and distance-to-empty.
Engine and performance
The BS6 Honda Dio retains the 109.19cc displacement with a single-cylinder, air-cooled layout. The power output, however, has gone down marginally than the old model. The BS6 Honda Dio makes 7.9bhp and 8.9Nm while the old version delivered 8bhp and 8.91Nm. The engine also benefits from ACG silent starter, enhanced smart power tech, fuel-injection system, side stand engine cut-off switch and an engine kill switch.
Hardware
The BS6 Honda Dio uses telescopic front forks instead of the hydraulic type system on the BS4 model, and the new setup should deliver an improved ride quality. The BS6 Dio also gets a bigger front wheel (12-inch vs 10-inch) than the old model.
The braking setup retains 130 mm drum brakes on both wheels while a disc is not available even as an option. The safety net continues to comprise of CBS tech.
