Honda expects prices of its motorcycles and scooters to increase between Rs 400 and Rs 1,000 when the Bharat Stage IV (BSIV) emission norms take effect in 2017.
Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing of HMSI was quoted saying "We will update all our models in 2017 as per BSIV norms. With that there will be price hike also in the range of Rs 400 to Rs 1,000 depending upon on which segment that model is available. The price hike will be more for motorcycles and less for scooters but overall the range may not go beyond Rs 1,000 for BSIV.”
The senior vice president said the company's CB Hornet 160R already has a BSIV compliant engine and the rest of the models in line-up will be upgraded to meet the upcoming norms. Popular models like the Activa range and CB Shine will also undergo mechanical changes to meet the norms.
In other news, Guleria said the industry is likely to grow by about 16 per cent to 18 per cent this fiscal, which is almost five times of last year's growth. He also said that this is good for the overall industry as last year's growth was merely 3 per cent.
