- It is similar to a car’s power steering
- A motor assists in executing the turning action
- It is unclear which Honda bike will get this tech first
Honda has patented a steering assist system for motorcycles which was filed on 8 September 2016 and got published this month. This is a setup which works similar to a car’s power steering which makes turning the vehicle easier.
The company had earlier revealed a three-wheeled motorcycle concept which was named as the NeoWing concept. It incorporated a similar type of steering assist setup but in a bulky and complex fashion while the new patent shows off a more compact assembly. In simple terms, there’s an assist motor which transmits the turning force to the steering stem and its main purpose is to make the steering action lighter.
It is still unclear on which bike Honda will equip this mechanism first. This has come in on the heels of the recently published patent by Honda which was regarding the VVT (variable valve technology). This adjusts the amount of valve opening within a cylinder of an engine depending on the level of rpm, which results in optimized power delivery.
