Honda’s flagship luxury touring motorcycle, the Goldwing, is to receive a major change for 2018. The bike was last upgraded in 2011 and with its reputation for being the ultimate luxury motorcycle; it is surely due for an upgrade.
The patents reveal two options for the bike’s front end. It could either be a pair of wishbones attached to a girder via bearings or a single shock and a lower wishbone. For the first setup, the bike would use a semi-active single sprung shock mounted under the handlebars. While the second setup will transmit braking forces to the frame instead, also ensuring that the front end is light.
If the 2018 model uses the current Goldwing’s flat-six engine, it will have to meet the Euro 5 emission standards right from its launch. We can also expect a four-cylinder hybrid, as patents filed by the company revealed.
Apart from the engine and styling upgrades, the 2018 Goldwing will also get a DCT gearbox as an option, that will include a seventh gear plus reverse. It will also sport electronic rider aids, an electronically adjustable windscreen along with handlebar controls like joysticks and thumb wheels. Wealthy travel junkies and gamer customers can now rejoice! The 2018 Goldwing is expected to be revealed at the EICMA in Milan this November.
