The Suzuki Access 125 already has a competitor from Honda; the Activa 125. As if this wasn’t enough, Honda has now launched the Grazia to rain on Suzuki’s parade. Priced at Rs 57,897 (ex-showroom), the Grazia is the manufacturer’s most expensive scooter in India. We look at how Honda’s newest scooter fares against, the Suzuki Access 125.
Design and Features
The Honda Grazia’s sharp design and fascia give it the appearance of a maxi-scooter, similar to the Dio. For a change, Honda has been generous with the features list.. It gets an LED headlamp unit flanked by turn indicators. The large instrument console consists of two digital displays- one displays the speedometer and the other displays the fuel gauge odometer and clock. It also gets a small glove box that houses the 12v power socket, which can be used to plug a phone charger, offered as an accessory.
One can also open the 18-litre underseat storage with a switch next to the ignition slot. The Grazia gets a 190mm disc up front as an optional extra, and a drum setup for the rear. Honda’s Combi-braking system is offered as standard. The scooter rides on 12-inch tubeless tyre at the front and 10- inch tubeless tyre at the rear. It gets telescopic forks for the front and a monoshock for the rear.
The Suzuki Access 125 is the manufacturer’s flagship scooter in India. The scooter has a retro-character with its chrome bits and curvy side profile. It features an analogue speedometer with a small digital display that shows the odometer, trip meter, fuel gauge and oil change indicator. The Access 125 gets a large 21.8 litre underseat storage and a glove pocket in the front apron. Suzuki also offers a 12V charging socket as an optional accessory.
The Suzuki Access 125 is available in disc brake and drum brake versions. The disc variant gets alloy wheels while the drum brake variant gets steel wheels. The wheels on both variants are shod with 12-inch rubber upfront and 10-inch rubber at the rear. It rides on telescopic forks for the front end while the rear gets a monoshock.
Engine
The Grazia is powered by the same 125cc engine as the Activa 125. The engine produces 8.5bhp and 10.5Nm of torque. The scooter weighs 107kg and gets a fuel tank capacity of 5.3 litres.
The Access 125 is also powered by a 125cc engine that produces 8.4bhp and 10.2Nm of torque. It is lighter than the Grazia with a kerb weight of 102kg and features a slightly bigger 5.6 litre fuel tank. The Grazia is marginally more powerful than the Access 125, although the latter is lighter.
Pricing
The Suzuki Access 125 is cheaper than the Grazia at Rs 54,143 for the drum variant while the disc variant is priced at Rs 57,488. However the Grazia justifies its higher price tag with its features. Prices for the scooter start at Rs 57,987 and go up to Rs 62,269 for the highest-spec variant.
