- Honda NX200 trademark registered
- Bike to be based on the Hornet 2.0 platform
- Small size adventure tourer expected
Honda Motors had applied for the trademark of NX200 last month and finally on 26 April it got registered. Atsushi Ogata, President & CEO of Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India in an interview, said that the company is under discussion to expand its portfolio, and they might use the Hornet 2.0 platform. An adventure tourer might also be considered.
Chances of the styling being inspired from CRF300L are very slim as it is an off-road bike and not an ADV. We can expect the styling to be inspired from the CX-02 concept unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo. It can be clearly seen that the bike gets tank extensions on both sides, a chunky exhaust and a single piece seat. A sharp LED headlamp unit is also visible. Riding position seems to be a little tilted with the straight handlebars which are equipped with hand guards.
The company might use the same 184cc motor which produces 17.03bhp at 8500rpm and 16.1Nm at 6000rpm. As mentioned earlier the bike will be based on the Hornet 2.0 platform, but some alterations are expected on the chassis of the motorcycle. The bike might be equipped with 17-inch wheels and disc brakes on both ends. Suspension duties might be taken care of by USD forks at the front and mono-shock on the rear.
The bike might hit the Indian market later this year. Upon its arrival in India it will compete against the Hero Xpulse 200T and KTM 250 Adventure. Ex-showroom price of the bike can be expected around Rs 1.5 lakh as the price of the Hornet 2.0 already starts at Rs 1.3 lakh.
