Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India is aiming to sell 45 lakh motorcycles and scooters in 2014-2015. This number is a 21 per cent jump over the previous fiscal and the company wants to make sure that it achieves this sales numbers.
Honda sold 37.21 lakh units in last financial year, which has helped them strengthen their position in the Indian two-wheeler market. The Japanese manufacturer currently ranks number two after Hero MotoCorp and wants to close the gap as soon as possible. In order to serve the customers better, Honda is setting up a fourth plant in Ahmedabad that is likely to start its operations in 2015-2016. This new facility will have an annual production capacity of 1.2 million units. With this new plant, Honda’s total production capacity will go to 5.8 million units a year.
"Honda achieved highest ever sales of 37.21 lakh units in 2013-14. The target for the current fiscal is to sell around 45 lakh units with a growth of 21 per cent," said Yadvinder Guleria, vice president, sales & marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India.
Honda India is planning to add 1,000 new dealership networks this year, 200 more than it established last year. One of the reasons Honda has been doing well in India is because of their product portfolio. It has been launching the right product, expanding its network especially in the rural areas and launching an aggressive marketing campaign.
