- Honda Activa 6G renamed
- Loses the famous ‘G’ suffix
- Activa 3G was launched in 2015
This new change was revealed through its official website, where the company has replaced the Activa 6G name. The website shows just the Activa name on digital material, and even the pictures of the scooter showed no signs of the famous ‘6G’.
The Japanese brand started to have this suffix on the scooter in 2015. This was a part of their marketing exercise where the brand wanted to show the Indian consumers the scooter’s latest status. So instead of using model year, as the rest of the industry does, Honda launched the Honda 3G, followed by 4G, 5G and then 6G. While this marketing route did help Honda with increasing the brand recall of the scooter, it became a bit too much, as even the minor updates were called generation change.
With this new branding, Honda may want to create a new product positioning for Activa. In fact, we think it also has to do something with the electric scooter, which is being planned for a 2024 launch. Honda may want to create a new line of Activa names, which aligns with the brand’s future product strategy.
