Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has registered an overall growth of 21 per cent in April 2014 compared to April 2013. HMSI managed to sell 3,13,942 two-wheelers in the last month compared to 2,59,608 units in the same period last year.
Of all the two-wheelers sold, Honda sold 1,38,105 units of motorcycles, a rise of 12 per cent, while the sales figures of scooters at 1,75,837, experienced a 29 per cent jump. Honda currently holds a 23 per cent market share in the domestic market in India, while the combined sales figures of domestic and exports give it a 21 per cent market share.
Honda is the leader in India in terms of scooter sales, with the Activa selling 16 lakh units in the last fiscal year, a growth of 39 per cent over the FY13. But Honda not only boasts of having India’s best-selling scooter, in its lineup, but also the country’s top-selling 125cc motorcycle, the CB Shine. Honda recently rolled out the 30th lakh unit of the CB Shine from its Tapukara plant in Rajasthan.
Honda recently launched a new variant of the Activa, called Activa 125. Powered by a 125cc engine, the Activa 125 is available in two versions and is priced at Rs 52,447 (ex-showroom Delhi).
