Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India has been slowly increasing their market share in India. This was achieved with the help of the Activa and Dream brands. The company now wants to strengthen its premium commuter segment, which hasn’t been doing quite well.
The Japanese manufacturer is planning to launch a 160cc motorcycle that will sit in the premium segment. This bike is expected to launched in this quarter, somewhere during festive season. It is expected to get slightly more power single-cylinder 160cc engine and will be than the current 150cc motorcycles.
Honda currently sells the CB Unicorn and the CB Trigger in this segment. While the old school CB Unicorn still gets some decent sales numbers, the CB Trigger has failed to attract consumers. Interestingly, the CB Trigger replaced the CB Dazzler that failed to gain traction in the Indian market. And now, the replacer is too facing the same heat.
This new 160cc Honda motorcycle will compete with the segment leaders like the Bajaj Pulsar 150 and the Yamaha FZ series. Early this week, Yamaha introduced two new FZ motorcycles that are fuel injected, in an attempt to gain more market share.
