The Honda Light Weight Super Sports Concept made it first public appearance at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, in Japan. Hailed as the precursor to Honda’s upcoming entry-level twin-cylinder motorcycle, the Light Weight Super Sports Concept ticks all the right boxes when it comes to conjuring the image of an aggressive performance-focussed sportsbike.
Honda still hasn’t revealed any technical details about this new concept, apart from its painfully long moniker. The long nose, low crouching position and the absence of a rear seat preview the concept’s track-biased approach. It is finished in a matte-black paint job, with graphics on the fairing previewing the internals of the motorcycle.
A closer look at the concept indicates that it is powered by a parallel-twin engine. The two exhaust manifolds blends into a single unit, ending with an Akrapovic end can. The artistic petal disc brakes and the edgy bodywork complement the bike’s aggressive character, though they are sure to be toned down for the production version.
The Honda CBR250R was one of the first modern-day quarter-litre sportsbikes and has been long due for an update. Honda’s rivals, with their new Yamaha YZF-R25, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the KTM RC390, have upped the ante in this buzzing market space. We can expect the production-ready version of the Light Weight Super Sports Concept to be ready by next year. Keep an eye on this space for more updates.
