- More powerful Africa Twin 1100 in the making
- Likely to get a turbocharger
- Will help it take on R1250GS, 1290 Super Adventure
Honda is working on a more powerful version of its famous adventure bike – the CRF1100L Africa Twin. The company has recently filed a patent to allow a turbocharger in the engine.
According to this leaked patent pictures, the Japanese brand is working on equipping this ADV with a twin screw compressor – something that is found in the Kawasaki H2. But the one on the Honda is being worked upon to deliver more torque in the lower end to improve bike’s long distance touring abilities. The patent drawings show the compressor mounted above the Africa Twin gearbox and would use two injectors for each cylinder.
There’s also a chance that the brand is just developing this technology with no intention of launching it in the immediate future. But we believe that a more powerful Africa Twin 1100 will definitely hit the market as it lacks the punch when compared with its main rivals – the BMW R120GSA and the KTM 1290 Super Adventure.
