Honda Monkey 125 Concept unveiled at the Vietnam Motorcycle Show

After much speculation, the Honda Monkey 125 has finally made its debut in flesh at the Vietnam Motorcycle Show. This concept pays homage to the classic Honda Monkey.

The Monkey 125 concept exhibited at the show is based on the MSX125, which is known as the Grom in the US. But unlike the Grom, which looks very modern, the new concept is designed to look more classic and is bigger in appearance. It seems to use the same frame as the MSX and the front suspension, brakes and wheels are also carried over. However, instead of the older sub-frame, there's a new fluorescent tube holding the single seat. A tubular swing arm can be seen, similar to the one on the original Monkey bike. Also, the mono shock of the Grom is now replaced by dual rear shock absorbers. All in all, a perfect retro-styled motorcycle.

Honda hasn't confirmed any changes to the engine. So, we can expect the same air-cooled 125cc SOHC, fuel injected mill from Honda MSX125 to power this Monkey 125. This motor produces 9.38bhp and 10.6Nm of torque and comes mated to a four-speed gearbox.

Honda's intentions about building this bike became clear when the patent drawings of the same were recently leaked. And, now with its public appearance at the show in a production-ready form, we can expect it to enter production soon. Honda might launch it in many more countries apart from some Asian markets. Sadly, India is not getting this bike anytime soon. But judging by the current curiosity for the Honda Navi, there’s still a slim chance that the company might plan to bring the Monkey bike here too. That is, of course, only if they think they might find potential buyers here. Until then, its fingers crossed!
