Honda had unveiled the CX-02 concept at the 2016 Auto Expo earlier this year hinting at the company’s design philosophy for its next generation adventure bikes. Now, the company’s Japanese arm has applied for patent of this motorcycle indicating that the bike will be into production in the near future.
The CX-02, or Concept Cross 02, was developed at the Honda R&D centre at the Technical centre in Manesar, Delhi. Targeted at the Indian youth, the CX-02 was designed to fulfil the needs of Indian roads while giving it the futuristic looks of a global model. Following up on the CX-01’s design philosophy, the CS-02 featured a fairing and tall riding stance to give it the dramatic look of an adventure touring bike.
Now, it seems like the CX-02 was impressive enough for Honda Japan to actually have the bike patented and consider putting it into production. Reports suggest that the CX-02 will end up replacing the CB500X, though Honda is yet to comment on this. The underpinnings are similar to the current CB500X and the styling will be completely revamped to give the bike a new look. However, considering that the current CB500X received some significant updates last year, it might be 2018 before the CX-02 hits the production lines.
