Honda has filed an application to patent the Africa Twin in the US. A spiritual successor to the popular XRV750 adventures bike of the early 2000s, the Honda Africa Twin was expected to go on sale in the first half of this year, though for some reason the Japanese manufacturer has been pushing back the launch of the motorcycle.
The patent drawing show that unlike the other soft adventure motorcycles currently on sale, the Africa Twin is a hardcore adventure bike designed to tackle the harshest of terrains. It features design cues from its Dakar motorcycles like side-mounted radiators and airbox which make space for a bigger fuel tank. The Africa Twin will also get split seats and seat height adjustment for the rider.
The Africa Twin will be powered by a 1,000cc parallel twin engine. Honda gave a fleeting glimpse of the motorcycle at last year's EICMA Show in Milan through the True Adventure Prototype. However it seems like the Japanese manufacturer wasn’t keen on letting out the finer details as the bike was heavily camouflaged in mud. However, now that the Japanese manufacturer has applied for its patent, it seems like the bike is going to see the light of day very soon.
