Continuing its stellar performance, Honda has recorded a two per cent growth in February as compared to the same period in 2015. Honda sold 3.69 lakh two-wheelers in the last month, helping it retain its position as the second largest two-wheeler maker in the Indian automotive industry.
Spearheading Honda’s growth is the country’s favourite scooter, the Activa. The three model Activa line-up cumulatively sold more than 2.10 lakh units, which is more than the number of Hero Splendor motorcycles sold in the last month. Overall scooter sales grew by 10 per cent. Apart from these, Honda also experienced a sharp rise in exports as the company shipped off 33 per cent more two-wheelers to its other global markets. Honda’s motorcycle range however, experienced a nine per cent decline in numbers.
February saw Honda launch the new Navi scooter in the Indian market. Priced at Rs 39,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi), this revolutionary model has kick started a completely new genre in the Indian auto industry. Besides, Honda also relaunched the CB Unicorn 150 encouraged by the strong public demand for the motorcycle. The company also inaugurated its fourth two-wheeler manufacturing plant in the country at Vithalpur, Gujarat. This new facility is expected to boost the company’s annual capacity by six lakh units.
