- Sold 5.19 lakh two-wheelers in the last month
- Scooter sales witness a drop in demand
- Retains second spot in the industry
Honda has posted a marginal two per cent growth in domestic two-wheeler sales in May 2018 as compared to May 2017. Just like with TVS, the sales seem to have been affected by the transition to E-Way Bill.
Despite the marginal growth, Honda has managed to hold on to the second position in the Indian two-wheeler industry. Honda sold 5.19 lakh two-wheelers in the last month as compared to 5.1 lakh two-wheelers sold in May 2017. Although scooters continue to contribute a major chunk of volumes to the overall the sales numbers dropped from 3.34 lakh units in May 2017 to 3.27 lakh units in May 2018. Nevertheless, motorcycle sales witnessed a major jump, which helped balance out the negative impact. Motorcycle sales grew from 1.76 lakh units to 1.91 lakh units.
Honda’s exports also grew from 26,654 units in May 2017 to 32,529 units in the last month. The Activa continues to be to most popular model in Honda’s line-up, and is followed by the Honda CB Shine. While the Japanese manufacturer has been recording double digit growth since the past few months, the transition to E-Way Bill has led to this sudden slowdown. Nevertheless, this is expected to be a one-time setback, and sales are expected to go back to normal by the end of this month.
