- Patent drawings reveal a bigger Honda Rebel
- Will be powered by Africa Twin engine
- Expected to be unveiled this year
Leaked patent drawings have revealed Honda’s plans of introducing a new version of the Rebel. The cruiser will borrow the engine from the Africa Twin.
The Honda Rebel is a cruiser, currently available in two versions. While the entry-level model is powered by a 300cc single-pot engine, there is a bigger version which gets a 500cc twin-cylinder powertrain. Now, a Japanese media house has gotten hold of patent drawings of a bigger litre-class version of the motorcycle. The engine seems to have been sourced from the Arica Twin. Styling is similar to the smaller Rebel models, although it does get an LED headlamp similar to the GB1000TT concept. We expect a prototype to be unveiled later this year at the Tokyo Motor Show. If this does happen, the production model might end up in showroom by the end of next year.
Honda will be launching a new product in India to rival the Royal Enfield range in the next couple of years. Rumours suggest that the Rebel will be this new product, although the company has refused to comment on it. And even if the rumours turn out to be true, we do not expect the litre-class Rebel to be introduced here anytime soon.
