Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) registered a 26 per cent growth in its domestic sales figures in August 2014, as compared to the corresponding period in the last year. The company also reported a 32 per cent hike in its overall sales numbers in April to August, this fiscal year.
Though exports have gone down marginally, lady luck seems to be favouring the Japanese manufacturer as domestic sales of scooters have hit an all-time high with the company selling 2,17,866 units, as opposed to 1,47,600 units it managed in August 2013. Domestic sales of motorcycles grew by six per cent. Honda currently holds a 28 per cent market share in India and is the country’s second largest two-wheeler manufacturer.
Last month, the company earned another feather in its cap as India’s favourite scooter the Activa, became the country’s top-selling two-wheeler by dethroning the iconic Hero Splendor. The company’s popular commuter motorcycles, the Shine and Dream series also recently reached the milestone of three million and one million units in sales, respectively. With the aim of expanding its reach in rural areas, it entered into a retail finance tie-up with Kangra Central Co-op Bank and also launched a mobile service van to serve customers upto last the touch point.
