Along with the upcoming 13th generation Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade, we could also see a Honda RVF1000 V4 in 2017. This motorcycle will sit between the Fireblade and the sold out MotoGP replica bike the RC213V-S.
The motorcycle will have many bits off the RC213V-S, like a V4 engine instead of an in-line four-cylinder motor. The engine will be sourced from the RC213V-S but is expected to receive a different state of tune to match its racetrack-bred 200bhp plus rivals. The RVF1000 V4 will also reportedly drop the hand-built frame and come with relatively cheaper cast aluminium monocoque unit.
When MCN quizzed Tetsuyo Suzuki, the head of Honda’s Research and Development, he said, “There are three projects under serious consideration. The three options open to us include a new replacement for the Fireblade, the RVF1000 and also a cheaper version of the RC213V-S. We will be studying all three in parallel and all are under serious consideration, but it is likely there will be one or perhaps two of the three options made for production.”
The new World Superbike (WSB) rules have now slashed the number of bikes that must be sold to meet homologation regulations from 1,000 to just 500. Moreover, WSB said the motorcycle must meet the price cap of €40,000 (Rs 30.5 lakh). Which means, the RVF will not have an ultra-expensive price tag like the RC213V-S.
