Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has recorded a growth of five per cent in its sales in March 2020. The company sold 261,699 units last month which was up from 249,136 units in the corresponding month last year. The domestic sales alone witnessed an increment of 11 per cent as the number ascended from 222,325 units in March 2019 to 245,699 units last month.
Honda’s sales took a major hit due to the company suspending all operations from 22 March in the wake of the rapidly spreading Coronavirus pandemic. The company has asked most of its employees to work from home in order to maintain social distancing. Honda has also stated that its business partners have all been paid for the month of March, despite the lockdown.
For extending its support to its customers, Honda has also shifted their free service/warranty/extended warranty period by two months which were falling between 15 March-15 April 2020. A similar step has been taken by Bajaj as well.
Honda had started rolling out BS6-compliant two-wheelers from as early as September 2019, months before the new emission norms were implemented from 1 April 2020. The Activa 125 Fi BS6 was not only Honda’s first BS6 two-wheeler, but also the country’s first scooter to adhere to the new emission regulations.
