- Sold 5.08 lakh two-wheelers in domestic market
- Exports grew by 23 per cent
- All four plants running at full capacity
Honda has posted a marginal 0.7 per cent drop in domestic two-wheeler sales in July 2018 as compared to the corresponding period in June 2018. While the negative growth might seem surprising, it is interesting to note that the company’s all four manufacturing facilities in India are running at their full production capacity.
Honda sold 5.08 lakh two-wheelers in the domestic market in the last month as compared to 5.11 lakh two-wheelers in July 2017. Scooter sales comprise a major chunk of these sales. The company sold 3.45 lakh scooters in the last month, which represents a growth of 0.5 per cent. Motorcycles sales dropped by three per cent, from 1.68 lakh units in July 2017 to 1.62 lakh units in July 2018. On the bright side, export numbers grew by 23 per cent. Overall, the company sold 5.48 lakh units, which marks a 0.7 per cent growth.
Nevertheless, Honda has retained the second spot in the Indian two-wheeler industry. The Activa 5G continues to be the most popular model, and is followed by the CB Shine, which is the country’s highest selling 125cc bike. Last month, Honda introduced MY2018 updates for five of its models.
