Just yesterday we informed you about a new two-wheeler being tested by Honda, the Grom. And now, there's yet another one that was spied, but this time around, it’s a scooter dubbed as the Scoopy.
The prototype didn't wear any camouflage and had a pillion rider. Like most of the test mules, this Scoopy was running on a temporary registration number. Honda has positioned the Scoopy as a premium lifestyle scooter in Europe as well as in the American market. This is why you will see the overall design to be vastly different from the traditional scooter. The fascia is dominated by a big oval headlamp which Honda claims was needed to give a modern retro look to the scooter. The turn indicators are integrated into this headlamp unit but are placed on the side. The test mule was loaded with a top box which is definitely a unique selling point. The other interesting aspect of the Scoopy are its 14-inch wheels. Currently, the Aprilia SR150 is the only one to get those wheels.
While the Scoopy is powered by an 108cc motor, expect the Indian variant, if Honda plans to launch it, to get the 110cc motor from the Activa 4G. This will help the company take advantage of locally manufactured parts and price the scooter competitively.
Since Minoru Kato got appointed as the new HMSI CEO, the company is trying to shed its traditional scooter company image to a brand that offers a mix of stylish, new and value-formoney global products. The launch of the Scoopy and the Grom might be the first of the lot. Honda offers a wide range of premium bikes and scooters worldwide, and if it does bring some of them to India, it is a clear indication that the domestic market is maturing rapidly.
