In one of our recent stories, we compared the newly launched Honda Shine 100 with the Bajaj Platina 100, as the two fall under the same category of commuter bikes. However, there’s one more bike that rivals the Shine 100 – the TVS Radeon. While this two-wheeler is a 110cc offering, its base variant undercuts the Honda bike. Here is how the two bikes compare in other aspects.
Design
The Honda Shine 100 is a thoroughbred workhorse with a slim design and small proportions. It has adapted design cues from the Shine 125 but gets fewer cuts and creases on the bodywork. The Radeon, on the other hand, looks a tad more stylish with its chrome headlight bezel, rubber grip on the tank, a chrome finish on the exhaust, and a golden colour on the engine. TVS also offers a luggage hook on the right side and a rear tail rack.
Engine
The Honda Shine 100 gets a 98.9cc, single-cylinder motor with an output rated at 7.28bhp and 8.05Nm. It’s linked to a four-speed gearbox. Meanwhile, the TVS Radeon packs a 109.7cc mill dishing out 8.08bhp and 8.07Nm. The TVS offering gets the upper hand here as it makes more power from its larger engine. It too gets a four-speed gearbox.
Hardware
Both bikes ride on telescopic front forks and dual rear shocks, but the Radeon’s rear springs get five-step adjustability. Both bikes get drum brakes at the front and rear. The Shine rides on 17-inch wheels, whereas the Radeon gets 18-inch alloys. However, unlike Shine's tubed units, TVS has equipped its commuter with tubeless tyres. The latter comes in handy in case of a puncture as the bike can still be ridden for a distance to get it repaired.
Dimensions
The Shine 100 weighs just 99kg, making it almost 14kg lighter than the Radeon. But the Radeon gets a 10-litre fuel tank, which is a litre more than the Shine 100. TVS hasn’t shared the Radeon’s seat height but Honda has, and at 786mm, the Shine 100 is quite easy to get on and off.
Price
The asking price for the Shine 100 is Rs. 64,900, whereas the TVS Radeon sells for Rs. 60,925 (both ex-showroom, Delhi). Overall, the TVS Radeon seems to be a winner here as its packs a larger motor, offers more performance, and the base trim costs less as compared to the Shine 100.
