Honda recently launched the Shine 100 in India as its smallest commuter bike offering. It’s priced at Rs. 64,900 (ex-showroom, Maharashtra). The Shine 100 is based on the Shine (125cc) and gets the same design and similar hardware. Meanwhile, its engine capacity is 100cc, and the output is rated at 7.61bhp and 8.05Nm. While the Shine 100 seems to be a value-for-money proposition on paper, there are other options in the same price bracket that you can look at.
Bajaj CT 110
The Bajaj CT 110 is priced at Rs. 59,110 (ex-showroom, Mumbai) and is the most affordable bike in the Chakan-based manufacturer’s portfolio. While it’s not available on the brand’s website, the bike is still on sale at dealerships. It’s powered by a 115.45cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that produces 8.48bhp and 9.81Nm. It’s mated to a four-speed gearbox. The CT 110 is also very bare-bones, like the Shine 100. It features a halogen headlight, analogue instrument console, telescopic front forks with dual rear shocks, and drum brakes at both ends. The CT is quite purposeful as its engine is frugal, its overall load-bearing capacity is decent, and as mentioned before, even the asking price is low.
TVS Sport
The TVS Sport costs Rs. 63,350 (ex-showroom, Mumbai) making it the most affordable bike that you can purchase from TVS. It features a family-friendly design that includes a halogen headlight, a slim fuel tank, a single-piece seat, and a grab rail for the pillion. The TVS Sport is equipped with a 109.7cc single-cylinder engine that makes 8.18bhp and 8.7Nm. One of the highlights of this engine is its frugality and overall power delivery. The TVS Sport’s build quality too is quite likeable. Meanwhile, it only packs a fairly basic set of features, such as bulb illumination, an analogue instrument console, and drum brakes on both sides. The TVS Sport gets a 10-litre fuel tank, and it tips the scale at 112kg.
Bajaj Platina 110
Another Bajaj offering that you can opt for as an alternative to the Honda Shine 100 is the Platina 110, which comes at an asking price of Rs. 69,216 (ex-showroom, Mumbai). This motorcycle gets a comparatively larger engine (110cc) which dishes out 8.48bhp and 9.81Nm. The Platina has been around for a long time and has become a popular name in the commuter bike segment. The rider triangle is quite comfortable, and thanks to the lightweight, the maneuverability is also commendable. Moreover, the Platina 110 gets good stopping power even with its drum brake setup. It rides on conventional telescopic front forks and dual rear shocks.
Hero Maestro Edge 110
If you are open to scooters as an alternative to the Shine 100, then you can check out the Maestro Edge 110. It costs Rs. 69,816 (ex-showroom, Mumbai) and packs a 110.9cc motor that makes 8.04bhp and 8.7Nm. The Maestro Edge features an LED tail lamp, a USB charging port, a digital inset in the instrument console, and a CBS (Combined Braking Setup). The highlights of the Maestro Edge 110 are its fuel-efficient engine, ride quality, and features list.
