Honda launched its first BS6-compliant motorcycle, the SP 125, in November in India. We recently spent some time with the motorcycle to find out how it fares out in the real world, and you can read our first ride review here. Meanwhile, let’s take a glimpse at the most notable aspects of the bike, through this review image gallery.
Honda has bestowed the new SP 125 with a fresh design. While the overall silhouette is similar to its predecessor, the CB Shine SP, the new model gets sharper lines across its bodywork which make it look more aggressive.
The most prominent change is on the headlamp unit which is surrounded by a sharper bikini fairing along with a restyled visor. It has also been equipped with LED headlamp, as opposed to the conventional bulb on the outgoing model.
The previous semi-analogue instrument cluster has been replaced by a fully-digital display which is a segment-first feature. It shows ample of information such as real-time mileage, average fuel efficiency, distance-to-empty, gear position and other necessary information.
Honda has also updated the switchgear of the bike which now exudes top-class quality and the buttons operate with a tactile feel. One of the most notable addition is the engine kill switch which also acts as the self-start button.
Weighing at 117kg (kerb), the SP 125 is around 7kg lighter than the previous model which contributes in making the motorcycle more flickable in traffic.
The most important change has been executed in the engine which now features Honda’s PGM-FI fuel-injection technology. While the engine retains its smooth and refined character, the power figures have also marginally gone up and now stand at 10.6bhp and 10.9Nm.
While the motorcycle remains majorly unchanged in terms of cycle parts, Honda has now introduced HET tyre with low rolling resistance for the rear wheel which ensures improved mileage while being grippier.
The SP 125 continues to feature telescopic forks and hydraulic dual shock absorbers while braking is handled by a disc (optional) up front and drum brake at the rear, assisted by CBS (combined braking system).
Honda has priced the SP 125 at Rs 72,900 (drum) and Rs 77,100 (front disc) (both priced are ex-showroom). While this is a significant premium over the outgoing model, the motorcycle remains a value-for-money proposition considering the improved performance, added features and refreshed styling.
