Honda recently unveiled a new 160cc commuter motorcycle in India. It is called the SP160 and seems like a slightly youthful version of the Unicorn. Moreover, both bikes share the same engine specifications, and the output figures as well. But what is the difference between the SP160 and the Unicorn?
The first and most noticeable one is the design. The SP160 gets a completely different look than the Unicorn. Though not very swanky, it certainly seems much more relevant to the current generation and borrows the styling from the SP125. Meanwhile, the Unicorn continues to employ a decade-old design with little to no changes. However, it seems to be working well for the brand and Honda seems to be following the ‘don’t fix what’s not broken’ mantra for the Unicorn.
As for the features, the SP160 comes with an LED headlight and bulb illumination for the turn indicators. On the other hand, the Unicorn makes do with the same conventional bulb setup overall. The SP also comes with a fully digital instrument console whereas the Unicorn gets an analogue setup.
Honda has offered the SP160 with a larger 276mm petal front disc compared to the Unicorn’s 240mm regular disc. Then, the SP160 also gets larger 18-inch tyres over the Unicorn’s 17-inch units. It even benefits from a larger, 130-section rear tyre whereas the Unicorn gets a 100-section tyre. The Unicorn gets a 13-litre fuel tank, which is one litre more than the SP160’s 12-litre capacity.
Last but not the least, the pricing. The Honda SP160 retails at Rs. 1,17,500 and Rs. 1,21,900 for the drum and disc brake modes, respectively. The Unicorn, on the other hand, costs Rs. 1,09,800 (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
