YS Guleria, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has been quoted saying the company is expecting a rise in demand in the rural market thanks to the good monsoon.
YS Guleria was quoted saying, "Currently 28 per cent of our total volume comes from rural markets. Earlier, the ratio was one scooter to nine motorcycles in rural markets but now, of late, with better availability of scooters the ratio has improved to 3:9. We started with our scooter-only factory in Sanand to breach the demand-supply gap in scooters and we have brought forward the second line in that plant to hit peak capacity by end August.”
The Senior VP-sales and marketing also added that for the first time in 10 years, Honda scooters will be available off the shelf this festival season. Scooter back orders are down to 18,000 units starting September from the 35,000 unit figure last year.
This will also enable rural markets to receive the scooters quicker. Typically, urban markets had shorter waiting periods than rural ones and Honda says this is about to change.
