Honda Motorcycles and Scooter India (HMSI) has been quoted saying that it aims to clock sales of over one million units during this festive season. The seventh pay commission and good monsoon will be major reasons for these high numbers.
HMSI, senior vice president (sales and marketing), Y S Guleria was quoted saying, "We plan to sell more than one million units during this festival season. We are expecting that bikes will constitute 35 per cent of target sales during festival season as demand for motorcycles picks up in rural sector during these months.”
We can see how Honda is looking at the major increase in sales to come from the rural market with the favourable monsoon. Not only is it expecting that bikes will constitute 35 per cent of target sales in the rural sector, Honda is also expecting an overall growth of 25 per cent compared to last year’s festive season.
The company is also offering cash benefit of Rs 2,000 on the purchase of motorcycles to attract central government and Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) employees who have got money under seventh pay commission.
Commenting on the overall growth of the company Guleria was quoted saying, "We are anticipating total sales of 5.4 million units by end of this fiscal which will be 22 per cent higher than sales of last financial year.” Speaking about the exports, he said that HMSI registered a 34 per cent growth in total exports this fiscal due to increased sales of two-wheelers in SAARC countries like Sri Lanka and Nepal.
