Honda India is planning a major expansion in terms of production capacity and it will be investing a sum of Rs 630 crores for the execution.
The company will add a new assembly line at its Vithalapur plant in Gujarat. This is a dedicated plant for manufacturing scooters. The facility was initiated in February 2016 with the capacity to churn out 0.6 million units annually. It saw its first expansion just six months after its commencement which boosted the annual production capacity further to 1.2 million units.
The addition of an extra production line will increase the capacity by 0.6 million units. With this, the annual manufacturing volume of Honda’s Vithalapur plant will reach 1.8 million units. The expansion plan is scheduled to be fully accomplished by the year 2020 and, once it is done, Honda’s overall two-wheeler production volume will escalate to 7 million units annually in India.
