Honda to launch entry-level motorcycle to take on Hero HF Dawn

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) is planning to launch a new motorcycle that will directly compete with Hero MotoCorp’s HF Dawn. The new motorcycle will be priced between Rs 30,000 and Rs 40,000, making it the least expensive motorcycle in the company’s range.  The new motorcycle will be developed from scratch at their newly inaugurated technical centre in Manesar plant.

“We are examining the possibility of introducing a low-cost motorcycle for India.” said Atsushi Amataka, president, Honda Research & Development India. Currently, Hero MotoCorp’s HF Dawn is the cheapest motorcycle in this segment which is priced at Rs 36,000 whereas from the Honda, it is Dream Yuga which is priced at Rs 44,000.

The 100-110cc segment is where bike manufacturers register maximum sales. So most of the manufacturer have their products lined up in this area. Honda does have one 110cc motorcycle but is priced at Rs 44,000. By launching one more motorcycle between Rs 30,000 and Rs 40,000 price bracket, Honda has an opportunity of capturing additional market share.
