Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India today signed a state support agreement with the Gujarat government to setup a new manufacturing plant in the state. This new plant will come up with an investment of Rs 1,100 crore and will come up in Viththalpur in Ahmedabad district.
This agreement was signed between D J Pandian, chief secretary Industry and Koito Maramutshi, CEO, HMSI. The plant is estimated to provide employments to more than 2,000 youths. The plant is going to have a production capacity of 1.2 million two-wheelers per year. This new facility is expected to be operational by the second half of 2015-2016 financial year and will be the fourth manufacturing facility in the country after Rajasthan, Haryana and Karnataka.
HMSI is aggressively making its presence felt in the country. Currently, at number two position, it plans to take the number one spot in next few years but Hero MotoCorp is not slowing down. It also plans to set up a new facility in Telangana to cater to the South India market.
