Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Honda will be unveiling a special edition named ‘Dare to be Different CBR1000RR Fireblade’ at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed to mark the silver anniversary of the legendary motorcycle. First launched in 1992, the bike was designed by Honda designer Tadao Baba who expressed his desire to deliver a motorcycle with low weight. Back then the motorcycle was powered by an 893cc engine which generated about 122bhp of power.
The bike received its first upgrade in 1994 where the bike received a new front cowl and a mild 2bhp power boost. Given the bike’s strong popularity among enthusiasts, in 1996 the bike received a bigger fairing, taller ‘bar and higher seat compared to its predecessor. This time around, the bike also got a bigger 919cc engine that made it a class apart from the rest and a leader in the segment. Over the years, the bike has received six more upgrades.
The current model is powered by a 999cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke 16-valve DOHC inline-4 engine that generates 186bhp of power and 114Nm of torque. The new model offers an additional 14 per cent in terms of power-to-weight ratio over its predecessor, while it also gets the Honda selectable torque control. At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Dare to be Different CBR1000RR Fireblade will be ridden by Honda ambassador, former Honda BSB racer and Isle of Man female lap record holder, Jenny Tinmouth. Moreover, the 25th anniversary celebration will also see a whole host of very special Fireblades from throughout the years.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place 29 June to 2 July 2017.
