Honda has pulled the wraps off the second generation CBR500R. The Japanese manufacturer chose the 2015 AIMExpo (the famous American motorcycle show that takes place in California) to unveil its latest creation.
The 2016 CBR500R gets sharper and more aggressive styling than its predecessor. Honda calls the design approach as ‘Aggressive Speed Shape’. While the 2013 version did look quite good, the new CBR500R has added more freshness to its long line up. It gets a sharp fascia which is flanked by two LED lights. The fascia reminds us of the iconic CBR600R and its litre-class sibling - the CBR100RR.
The Japanese manufacturer has limited major updates to its design. It also gets a new muffler design for improved mass centralisation, lighter weight and an improved exhaust note. Honda claims that fuel tank capacity is larger in this model, however, the official website still shows the old figure. The 2016 version now gets an adjustable front brake lever making it easy for all kinds of riders.
Honda hasn’t touched the mechanicals and the chassis. It continues to be powered by the same 471cc liquid-cooled parallel twin engine that churns out close to 47bhp. The 2016 CBR500R will now be available in three new colour schemes – matte black metallic, millennium red and pearl white. Talking about the price, the Japanese manufacturer hasn’t disclosed anything but we are expecting it to be marginally higher than the outgoing model.
