- Honda working on an entry-level commuter offering
- To go up against the likes of the Hero Splendor Plus
- Feasibility test already completed
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India is working on a new entry-level commuter motorcycle, as revealed by the brand’s president, Atsushi Ogata, during an interaction with a media publication.
The company’s top honcho confessed that they haven’t been able to match the customer demand in this category of motorcycles. At present, they do have the CD 110 Dream but it hasn’t been able to rake in sales numbers anywhere close to closest rivals like the Hero Splendor Plus. To give you a perspective, the Hero Splendor brand (including Splendor Plus and Splendor iSmart 110) registered sales of 1,94,760 units in the month of January, 2022. Meanwhile, the Honda CD 110 Dream found just 13,021 takers in the same month.
Honda has already done the feasibility test in this regard and development of the bike will commence soon. The entry-level bike segment (up to 110cc) has occupied as much as 56 per cent of the total motorcycle sales in India in the ongoing financial year, until now. While Hero dominated this genre, Honda’s share this year has been at a measly 3.6 per cent. On the flip side, Honda’s Shine is the king of the 125cc motorcycle segment in terms of sales.
For strengthening its presence in the small-size commuter segment, we believe Honda will launch a rugged 110cc purposeful offering, similar to the Splendor Plus. However, it might have more modern features as compared to its rivals.
