Honda has shown interest in launching a Royal Enfield competitor a few months ago. While the details looked a bit sketchy back then, Honda has now managed to at least set a deadline to launch the bike and that’s by 2020.
Honda has currently a wide range of motorcycles in its global portfolio. However, the company doesn’t have a product yet that will rival directly with the Royal Enfield bikes. There are a few cruisers like the Rebel in the US and the Thailand markets, those would not be an ideal fit for a Royal Enfield rival.
The Japanese manufacturer is also looking at developing a new motorcycle platform that will spawn this cruiser. A Ducati Scrambler like motorcycle could be a possibility but the company hasn’t developed anything like that. So the development process is expected to take some time.
A lot of manufacturers want to get into the 350cc and above segment as Royal Enfield has shown brilliant growth in the last few years. Bajaj tried with the Dominar 400, however, the sales haven’t been as expected.
