- A mid-range electric two-wheeler in the works
- Another with a swappable battery function also on the cards
- To be based on Honda’s new Platform ‘E’
Honda has pulled up its socks to storm into the Indian EV arena. The company recently released its detailed plan, which involves introducing two new products in the electric two-wheeler segment in FY2023-24.
Both these scooters will be based on Honda’s newly-developed Platform ‘E’. As we have reported earlier, one of these products will certainly be the electric version of the Activa 6G. In an interaction, the CEO of Honda stated that the first EV would be based on its existing platform. Considering Honda’s Activa brand enjoys unmatched popularity amongst all scooters in India, it seems logical and makes business sense to use this name for its first EV.
In its detailed plan, Honda stated that one of these EVs will be a mid-range, fixed battery type offering while the other will boast swappable battery functionality. Although there’s no official confirmation on which of these will be the Activa electric, we know it will be the one with a fixed-type battery and its top speed will be around 50kmph. However, the battery and motor specifications will only be revealed once we get closer to the official launch. We are also curious to know what kind of bodywork and feature list the Activa electric will be armed with.
To maintain the cost-effectiveness of the production, Honda’s upcoming electric two-wheelers will be locally produced at its Narsapura plant in Karnataka. Through this facility, the Japanese brand aims to surpass the one million EV production milestone by 2030. You can get more details by reading our previous report on Honda’s EV-related announcement.
