Most of the country is staying home due to the lockdown triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic. But there are a few who are part of the essential services and have to travel in these difficult times. In fact, some of us also have to go out once in few days to get groceries or for some medical emergencies. So here, we tell you a few ways to stay safe on your motorcycle or scooter if you are traveling during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Exterior cleaning
Before you start your day, make sure you clean the two-wheeler. It doesn’t need to be a thorough water wash. The bike or the scooter can be dusted with a micro fibre cloth. But it’s always good to have a few pair of surgical gloves handy. The idea here is to keep the two-wheeler tidy and get rid of the dirt and the dust that could have accumulated. Plus, many people tend to touch the vehicles knowingly or unknowingly when it is parked in crowded parking spots.
Extra attention
Pay extra attention to the places where you touch the most. So things like accelerator, brake and clutch levers along with the switchgear need to be disinfected the most.
Fuel pump
Fuel pump is one of the places where you would have to share the space with many other riders. So make sure to keep enough distance from them. When your time comes, unlock the fuel filler cap by yourself and don’t let the pump attendant do it for you. Just request the attendant to carefully fill the fuel in your scooter or motorcycle.
Get a cover
It’s difficult to source a bike or a scooter cover during the lockdown, but post it, make sure to purchase a cover. The idea is to cover your vehicle every time it’s going to be parked for a long durations. That way, your two-wheeler won’t just be dust free but it will also refrain people from sitting on it.
Wash your hands
The best way to avoid getting infected though is to wash and disinfect your hands regularly. Try to keep a bottle of hand sanitiser inside your bag and use it every time you touch any of the surfaces mentioned above. Wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds as regularly as possible.
