It has been more than seven months since Husqvarna showcased the two concept models – the 401 Vitpilen and the 401 Svartpilen. And now, we have managed to see the production version of the 401 Vitpilen being tested on the roads of Spain.
First thing you will observe is the test mule’s resemblance to the KTM 390 Duke. While Husqvarna has been taken over by KTM’s parent company, it is not a surprise that both the brands will share the same motorcycle platform and the 401 Vitpilen is one such example. The 401 Vitpilen will get the Duke 390 underpinnings and the traditional trellis frame is clearly visible. The overall design is quite close to the concept model that was unveiled at the 2014 EICMA, but we are expecting the motorcycle to get a minor distinctive design that will showcase the Husqvarna brand.
The fuel tank on the spied motorcycle looks new, just like the curved seats. The number plate holder is new as well but will be first seen on the facelifted KTM Duke 390. Due to the low clip-on handle bars, the riding position is quite aggressive. Mechanically, the 401 Vitpilen will be powered by the same 373cc engine that churns out close to 43bhp. We won’t be surprised if we see a 125cc and the 200cc version of this after the 401 is launched.
We are expecting the company to reveal the production versions at the 2015 EICMA which is scheduled from November 19th till 22nd. In order to keep costs low, there is a high chance of the low-displacement Husqvarnas being manufactured at Bajaj’s Chakan plant.
Stay tuned to BikeWale as we get you more details about this Swedish manufacturer.
