IMOTY or Indian Motorcycle of The Year, which came into being in 2007, has concluded the jury round for the year 2019. IMOTY only considers new motorcycles that are manufactured or assembled in India which have gone on sale in showrooms before November 30.
This year the short list for the IMOTY 2019 included the G 310 GS and G 310 R from BMW, the GSX-S750 and the V-Strom 650 XT from Suzuki, and the Apache RR310 and the Apache RTR 160 4V from TVS. Also part of the short list were the Hero Xtreme 200R, the Honda CBR650F, the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, the SWM Superdual T, the Triumph Tiger 800, and the Yamaha YZF-R15.
The IMOTY jury includes representatives from eight member magazines, and one juror in his individual capacity. The final contenders were voted on based on a number of parameters including styling, value for money, technical innovation, build quality, fuel economy, performance, practicality, and above all, suitability for Indian riding conditions. An IMOTY juror must work with 25 points, which must then be awarded to a minimum of five motorcycles with a maximum top score of 10 points for any one of the finalists.
The winner of IMOTY 2019 will be announced on 20 December.
