We recently had a close look at the upcoming Yamaha YZF-R3 alongside the MT-03 and a few other Yamaha bikes. The Japanese supersport is set to debut in India very soon. So, let’s check it out through these images.
The YZF-R3 borrows its design language from the larger R1, and thus it gets a split LED headlight integrated into a sharp fairing. There’s an air duct in between the lights and it is topped by a transparent windscreen. Then, the rear-view mirrors are mounted on the front fairing instead of the handlebars.
The 2024 Yamaha R3 gets a large fuel tank with creases to accommodate the rider’s thighs. Even the footpegs are rear set and the overall rider triangle seems a tad aggressive.
Powering the R3 is a 321cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled motor that makes 42bhp and 29.6Nm. It is linked to a six-speed gearbox.
The R3 gets an LCD that houses a host of readouts like the speedometer, odometer, trip meter, tachometer, gear position indicator, fuel level readout and more. That said, it misses out on smartphone connectivity compared to some of its foes.
The R3’s hardware comprises USD front forks and a monoshock. Meanwhile, the braking hardware comprises a single front and rear disc with dual-channel ABS. This setup is mounted on 17-inch alloys wrapped in 110/70 front and 140/70 rear tyres.
We expect Yamaha to launch the R3 in India by the end of 2023. It will rival the KTM RC 390, Kawasaki Ninja 300, TVS Apache RTR 310 and the BMW G 310 RR. Unofficial bookings for the R3 have begun with a token amount of Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 20,000.
