KTM is planning to launch its latest offering the Duke 390 in United States by 2014. The motorcycle will be manufactured by Bajaj Auto at their Chakan plant in Pune and then be exported to US. Currently, the plant manufactures the Duke 125 and the Duke 200 which are exported to Europe.
“It is a strategic decision together with Bajaj to go for sporty, stylish motorcycles even for the saturated markets because cars have become too expensive. We are entering the street bike segment in the US for the first time and beginning next year the Duke 390 built in India by Bajaj will be sold in the US market.” said Stefan Pierer, chief executive, KTM.
The Duke 390 is powered by 390cc single cylinder mill which develops peak power of 45bhp and 35Nm of torque. The liquid-cooled engine is mated to six- speed gearbox and also features an advanced fuel injection. Bajaj Auto is planning to launch the Duke 390 in India by March and will be priced very competitively.
