India will soon see new driving license and vehicle registration norms from October this year. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) has issued new rule to unify driving licences and vehicle registrations across the country.
This is being done to bring uniformity across the country which will help the government and law enforcers in many ways. There will be QR code on the new driving licenses that will help the authorities track offenders. Due to the same QR code, the authorities will be able to keep a track of the violations for up to 10 years. These licences will also be equipped with a chip that will work using near-field communication (NFC) technology.
Apart from past offences, the card will also contain information like physical disability and modification done to the vehicle to meet their needs. The better quality and technologically advanced cards will also have an emergency contact number at the back. There will be an emergency contact number of the back of the card as well. The new registration card like fuel type, chassis/engine number, emissions and owner details. This card will also be equipped with a chip on the front side and the QR code on the other side.
