Yamaha is expecting India to be in their list of top five markets by 2016. The company aims to accomplish this by launching more motorcycles and scooters that will be in the mass market segment of the country
The Japanese two wheeler maker is also planning to turn their Indian facilities into a component sourcing hub over the coming years and have already started procuring parts from the country for its global operations. The operating costs in India is very low compared to other countries, so setting up a factory and exporting parts to various international market makes it financially viable.
"Indian market is very big and it's most important for us. Two wheeler sales volumes here is gradually increasing. It will become our top five markets by 2016.In 2016; our aim is to have net sales of 2 trillion yen globally. We expect India to contribute significantly by then. We will launch many products in this category. Our plan is to introduce 2-3 products every year," said Hiroyuki Yanagi, president and CEO, Yamaha Motor Company.
