Triumph Motorcycles has unveiled the new, 2022 Tiger 1200 and the flagship adventure-tourer from the British manufacturer will reach the Indian market next year. The 2022 iteration of the Tiger 1200 gets several upgrades over its predecessor and here we explain the motorcycle in detail.
Variants
Similar to the Tiger 900 series, the new Triumph Tiger 1200 will be sold in two configurations – Rally and GT. The GT, as the name suggests, is designed for touring and features road-focused hardware. The Rally model, on the other hand, is aimed for off-road use.
Thus, the GT runs on 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels and gets Metzeler Tourance tyres. It also runs with relatively shorter suspension travel than the Rally variant. The off-road biased Rally model gets a longer travel suspension and 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels that feature a cross-spoke design. This enables the installation of tubeless tyres. The Rally version gets Metzeler Karoo street tyres but buyers can also opt for the Michelin Anakee units. The suspension hardware is sourced from Showa. The braking setup comprises dual 320mm discs with Brembo Stylema callipers at the front and a 282mm single rotor with Brembo calliper at the rear.
The GT range will comprise three variants (GT, GT Pro, and GT Explorer) while the Rally series will include two options (Rally Pro and Rally Explorer). The Explorer variants of both models will get a 30-litre fuel tank while other versions will use a 20-litre unit.
Styling
The styling revisions include a sleeker headlight design with an integrated LED DRL, a semi-fairing, a tall windscreen, a split-style saddle, and a tall-set exhaust. The weight saving measures on the 2022 Tiger 1200 include a lighter chassis, a single-sided swingarm, and an aluminium fuel tank.
Features
Triumph Motorcycles has bestowed a comprehensive electronics package to the 2022 Tiger 1200. Similar to the Ducati Multistrada V4, the new Triumph Tiger 1200 gets a radar-based blind-spot detection function. The British adventure tourer also benefits from a lane assist feature. The radar-based system is available for GT Explorer and Rally Explorer variants only. The electronics package also includes an IMU, traction control system, ABS, riding modes, and an electronic suspension system. The seven-inch colour-TFT display is Bluetooth-enabled.
Other features on the new Tiger 1200 range include full-LED lighting, adaptive cornering lights, keyless system, heated grips and heated seats, tyre pressure monitoring system and hill hold. Some of the features mentioned here are not available for the GT model.
Engine
The motorcycle is powered by a 1,160cc, inline-three cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that is linked to a six-speed gearbox and makes 147bhp at 9,000rpm and 130Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm. The power is sent to the rear wheel via a shaft drive system.
