India-bound Honda CBR650R to launch by early 2019

- Showcased at 2018 Thai Motor Show

- To replace the out-going CBR650F

- Produces 5 per cent more power

Set to globally replace the CBR650F, it has now been confirmed that Honda will be launching the new CBR650R by early 2019 in India. While the motorcycle was recently showcased at the Thai Motor Show, it was unveiled for the first time during this year’s EICMA event in Milan. 

The new CBR650R adopts a more aggressive stance as compared to its predecessor. The position of the handlebars have been lowered and moved 30mm further ahead, while the footpegs are 6mm higher and 3mm behind. These changes should allow better feedback to the rider and more lean while cornering. 

The motor is a reworked 649cc inline 4-cylinder unit that now produces 5 per cent more power and revs 1000rpm higher. The power output figures are 98bhp at 12,000rpm and 64Nm of peak torque at 8,500rpm. The motor comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox assisted by a slipper cutch. 

Other cycle parts include 41 mm upside-down Showa forks instead of telescopic ones (on the current model) with 120mm of travel and adjustable rear monoshock with 43.5mm of travel. In terms of electronics, apart from the ABS, the CBR650R gets Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) which controls the amount of torque delivered to the rear wheel.

For now, Honda hasn’t confirmed anything about the price, except a decent hike considering the added tech and new parts.
