The India-made Harley-Davidson Street 500 was launched in Australia for around 10,000 dollars (Rs 4.8 lakh). The Street 500 sat in the third position in the 2015 road bike sales in Australia.
The total sales of road bikes in Australia were 45,013 units in 2015. Harley-Davidson accounted for 21.7 per cent of those bikes with 9790 sales, including 1,605 Street 500 models and 1,552 Softail Breakouts. Harley beat Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki and BMW in overall road bike sales.
Harley-Davidson Australia spokesman Adam Wright is “super excited” about being the number one road bike seller across Australia. “Much of the success is attributed to the new LAMS Street 500 which was released in February of 2015 and the ongoing popularity of the Softail Breakout which continues to be in high demand,” he says.
The learner-approved Harley-Davidson came in third with 1,605 units, behind the Honda CT110X and the Kawasaki Ninja 300 which sold 2,114 and 1,947 units respectively.
Harley-Davidson India does not offer the 500cc Street option, but one can get the 750cc Street in India for Rs 4.7 lakh (Ex-showroom Mumbai).
