KTM has launched the 390 Duke and 250 Duke in the Malaysian market. Priced at MYR 28,800 (Rs 4.47 lakhs) and MYR 21,730 (Rs 3.37 lakhs) respectively, these bikes are manufactured at Bajaj’s factory in Pune.
Both the KTM 390 Duke and the 250 Duke are based on trellis frame with the single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine as a stressed member. The 390 Duke gets a 373cc engine delivering 43bhp and 37Nm of torque, while the 250 Duke gets a 249cc engine delivering 29bhp and 24Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to a six-speed transmission, with the 390 Duke benefitting from a slipper clutch. Both the bikes ride on 43mm front forks and a rear monoshock sourced from WP Suspension, and a three-mode ABS system. While the 250 Duke sold in India doesn’t get ABS, the system is offered as standard in Malaysia.
Being the only country to manufacture the small-capacity Duke range, India has become an important export hub for KTM. Apart from a good demand in the domestic market, the company has been recording a decent growth in terms of international sales numbers and setting new sales records every year.
